Good story, Avery!
I was glad to see this posted here. You did a great job giving us some of the quieter character moments I found myself missing in season two. I really liked how you shifted so nicely between characters' perspectives here, giving us a glimpse into what both Jake and Heather are feeling, under everything they're not saying.
I like how you use one simple, concrete, every day thing, coffee, to tie everything together. It's obviously about so much more than a caffeine fix, when these characters take time out to reflect on their situation and the things going on in their world.
Thanks for sharing!
Even though I've read this several times, I feel like each time I do, I notice something different. I like how you can convey so much with so little. Surviving on coffee, indeed. I really wish we would have had more moments like these in Season 2.
Nicely done, Avery! I have to agree, these are scenes we should have seen at the beginning of season 2. They would have done my Jake/Heather shipper heart a world of good.
I really enjoyed the insight into their thoughts you gave us here, and how our favorite duo finally began to open up to one another, just a little, in the last scene. I wanted to quote the whole thing, but decided against it. Suffice to say, I think there was some hopeful development there. In light of where you've left us here, I'd love to see your take on Jake asking for Heather's help.... maybe you could get me over some of my conflicted feelings about that one!
Thanks for sharing. I look forward to reading more from you, whatever and whenever you choose to write next. :-)
